Frequently Asked Questions
What is included in our wedding ceremony package?
All packages include:
- Styled ceremony venue - all set up and ready to go!
- Officiant
- Photography
- Cake/cupcakes
- Bubbly toast (de-alcoholized)
Add-ons include: livestreaming, drag queen officiant (Deva Station, based on availability) , additional photo time with your ceremony photographer (based on availability)
Livestreams: A private link will be sent to you after booking.
We provide wireless microphones to ensure clear audio, and a professional camera and streaming equipment.
Please note: the livestream will broadcast a static shot down the centre of the aisle to capture your ceremony. Our photographers are aware of the setup, but may need to occasionally cross into the shot so as not to miss photos of important moments.
Do you offer vow renewals and other commitment ceremonies?
Yes! We have been honoured to celebrate relationship milestones with many couples!
The only differences in a vow renewal or commitment ceremony from a legal wedding ceremony are the paperwork and a variation on the ceremony script.
You get all the same great experience, and inclusions, as our couples that have a marriage license:
- Beautifully designed space for up to 20 guests
- Celebratory bubbly toast and cupcakes/cake
- Photographer to capture your ceremony and some family portraits
- An experienced officiant to guide you through a beautiful declaration of your love and (re)commitment
To book: select one of our three available packages, and indicate in the booking comments that this is for a vow-renewal or commitment ceremony
Where are you located?
We are located in the heart of downtown Halifax at 5239 Blowers St, at the iconic Pizza Corner.
The entrance is just next to Willy’s Takeout window, shared with Noreast Barber. We are up a few steps inside the building.
Where is the best place to park?
Street parking is available on Grafton and Blowers Streets (payable via the HotSpot app using Zone B).
The Hollis St. Metro Park Garage is also a short walk away. For additional options, and accessible parking info, check out the Parking guide by the Downtown Halifax Business Commission here.
Is your venue accessible for people in a wheelchair?
Unfortunately, our space does not have an accessible entrance for wheelchairs.
We’re proud to offer a warm, inclusive space that's welcoming for all couples and guests. But our chapel has some physical limitations being on the second floor of an older downtown building. There are three short sets of stairs (4-5 steps per set) at the entrance, with a landing between them, and our washrooms are not yet fully accessible.
We’re actively exploring ways to improve physical accessibility—like adding a chair lift at a secondary entrance and renovating our washrooms—but as tenants in an older building, these upgrades will take time, landlord permission, and funding.
If you or your guests have specific access needs, please reach out. We’ll do our best to find creative solutions and ensure everyone feels welcome and supported.
What days do you host weddings? Can I book outside of these days?
We currently host weddings year-round from Wednesday-Sunday.
Please reach out if you're interested in a date or time not listed on our booking calendar.
How far out should we book?
You can book up to 16 months out from today's date.
Peak wedding season in Nova Scotia is mid-May to mid-October; so if you have your hearts set on a specific date/time of day, you'll want to book sooner rather than later.
Ideally, we have at least 14 days' notice–but we have certainly been able to accommodate shorter notice (we love a secret last-minute elopement!)
Do you host other kinds of events besides weddings?
Our focus is on all-inclusive intimate ceremony packages, including elopements, minimonies, and micro-weddings.
Can we bring our own photographer or officiant?
Absolutely! You are welcome to bring your own photographer or officiant. Just let us know when you book so we can ensure a smooth ceremony.
Please note: the package prices remain the same
Who performs the ceremonies & are they religious?
We work with a number of fantastic Justices of the Peace (JPs). They provide secular (non-religious) ceremonies.
They are registered with the Department of Business and Consumer Services, and are authorised by the province of Nova Scotia to legally perform wedding ceremonies.
Can I personalise my ceremony?
Absolutely! You can request personalisations for your ceremony:
- Our officiants can adjust their ceremony scripts to include:
- Your personally written vows
- Specific readings
- Unity ceremonies
- Cultural elements
- Send us your personal Spotify playlist for the aisle, document signing, recessional, first dance (if you want one!) choices
Just let us know what you envision for your big day!
Are children welcome & do they count toward the guest max?
Yes, children are absolutely welcome! If you want them there, then we want them there!
Depending on their age, they may or may not be included in the guest count. Please reach out to confirm for your celebration.
Are pets allowed?
We love pets! Well-mannered, house-trained pets are welcome to join the paw-ty! Just let us know ahead of time so we’re ready for your VIPs (very important pets).
If your furry friend has an accident during their visit, we kindly ask that you take care of cleanup — we’ll have supplies on hand just in case!
Are we able to come in early to decorate the space?
If you have special personal items (e.g., guest book, photos of loved ones), feel free to bring them along and we'll help you get them set up quickly within your allotted time. Unfortunately, there is no early/late access for full-scale decor setups or tear-down.
Are we allowed to bring our own snacks or beverages?
We provide a celebratory bubbly toast (de-alcoholized) and cake/cupcakes as part of your package.
If you'd like to extend the celebration, we’re happy to recommend nearby spots for snacks or libations after the ceremony.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept various forms of payment via our secure online booking system, including credit card, debit, and e-transfers.
What is your deposit and payment schedule?
A $950 deposit is required at the time of booking to secure your date.
The balance is due at least 14 days before your ceremony.
What happens if we need to reschedule or cancel our booking?
We understand plans change.
- Unfortunately we are not able to offer any refunds for cancellations within 14 days of your ceremony date, as suppliers will have already been secured for your date.
- Cancellations made in writing with at least 14 days’ notice will receive a refund of fees paid, minus the (non-refundable) deposit.
- One reschedule is permitted with at least 14 days’ notice, pending availability.
- If you need to reschedule more than once, you will be charged a rebooking fee of 20% of your total package price.
- Any rescheduling requested within 14 days will be considered a cancellation (as described above), and new date processed as a new booking.
We will do our best to accommodate, but rescheduling is subject to availability. We thank you for your understanding.
What is Rainbow Registered, and how are you dedicated to creating a safe(r) space to celebrate all love?
Rainbow Registered is a national accreditation program through the Canadian 2SLGBTQI+ Chamber of Commerce (CGLCC) that recognizes businesses committed to providing safer, welcoming, and inclusive experiences for 2SLGBTQI+ folks.
This designation means a business has met a national standard for inclusion — through policies, training, and practices that go beyond rainbow stickers and Pride Month.
At Happily Hitched Halifax, we are proud to be Rainbow Registered — but more importantly, we live these values in the way we operate every day.
Here’s how we’re creating a space where love feels safe and celebrated for everyone:
💬 We use inclusive, non-gendered language in all of our materials — from our website and ceremony scripts to our forms and communications. No assumptions. No “bride and groom” defaults. Just celebration, your way.
📜 Our client and vendor agreements include an inclusion and anti-harassment clause, setting a clear standard that racism, homophobia, transphobia, fatphobia, ableism, and other forms of discrimination have no place in our venue or vendor network.
📸 Representation in our marketing is intentional and intersectional. We make a conscious effort to showcase couples of all races, body types, gender identities, abilities, and ages in our imagery and storytelling. This isn't performative — it's reflective of the community we serve and are part of. Love doesn’t look just one way, and neither should our socials!
🤝 We work with vendors and officiants who align with our values — many of whom are part of the queer communities themselves. They're chosen not only for their talent but for their warmth, professionalism, and shared commitment to inclusion.
📚 We engage in ongoing learning to challenge our own biases and stay accountable. Anti-racism and 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion are not boxes to tick — they’re active, evolving commitments.
❤️ Whether you’re Queer, Trans, BIPOC, Disabled, Neurodivergent — or all of the above — your love is valid, worthy, and welcome here. Full stop.
