A sweet Friday evening elopement kicked off our lo A sweet Friday evening elopement kicked off our long weekend in Halifax!

B&B celebrated their love with an intimate ceremony, before heading down to @ristoranteamano.hfx to join a small gathering of their nearest and dearest. ❤️

The restaurant holds a special place for them as a spot they frequent for anniversaries and other special ocassions!

We were also reminded of just how small our Halifax community is when we realised: one of the bride's friends had gotten hitched with us too (👋 Ana!), their JP @josephallenhfx officiated her brother's wedding a few years back, and I had met her father back when I worked with the Halifax Chamber. Ya just never know who you know! 🫶

Sending so much love to the happy couple! Congratulations!!!

🎬 The truth about intimate chapel weddings... Is t 🎬 The truth about intimate chapel weddings...
Is that they are AMAZING!!

Some of the reasons we love them are that they:

- Reduce stressful months-long planning
- Are an affordable option to cover the key elements of making your marriage official, documenting, and celebrating your love!
- Are more eco-friendly
- Focus on your love, not a production
- Can include just the traditional elements YOU want and love
- Can also buck tradition entirely!
- Are short and sweet, so you can spend the rest of the day doing whatever the two of you actually want to do!

Cutting the cake is the sweetest way to start the Cutting the cake is the sweetest way to start the journey of a lifetime together!

There are a few origins to our modern western cake cutting practice:

-It was once more common to break bread over the couple's head (more of a savoury loaf), with the wheat symbolizing fertility and prosperity.

-some cultures would add honey and other fruit/syrup/icing to make more of a sweet dessert bread, symbolizing the sweetness of love.

-In later years with cakes as we know them now, couples often cut the cake together. This symbolizes the first task they complete as a married couple.

-Feeding a piece to eachother is often viewed as a promise to provide for and nurture one another.

Which of these traditions did you know? Do you know of any others related to cakes and cake-cutting at weddings? Let me know in the comments!
